“Wear Comfortable Shoes”

Wear comfortable shoes. Do not overlook this Trainer Tip. It is one of the very best pieces of advice that can be given to anyone standing on their feet all day. I will say it again; wear comfortable shoes. As trainers and instructors, we will run laps around the classroom during the course of the day. This does not include the pre-work/pre-class preparation, or the end of the day follow-up that occurs. We put in a lot of steps. Wearing the wrong shoes when you are in class, or on your feet all day is detrimental to your health in so many different ways. You can develop back pain, foot pain, leg pain, all over pain, and it can impact your mood. This will impact your delivery and your interactions with your class. If you are in pain, and off-balance, everything around you will be as a result. You would not want to lead a class all day in those hard-soled wingtips or heels, would you? Think about it for a minute.

While your hard-soled shoes may go with your outfit/uniform, there are companies that design and make shoes for people that are on their feet all day, and they all come with varying price points. However, if you insist on keeping those hard-soled shoes while you are in class, I highly recommend a pair of insoles for your shoes. Believe me, those gel insoles have been a blessing.

Take care of your feet because every movement we make is observed, and relays a message to our learners. Wearing comfortable shoes helps with your self-care.

Be comfortable and at ease while you teach, and your learners will be too.
