"Always know what is in your toolbox."
Whether you are on stage in front of a class or group, or if you are behind the scenes designing learning; your most powerful resource is your toolbox.
Your trainer toolbox or toolkit as it is sometimes referred to, is your bag of tricks. Everyone has a toolbox, even if they aren't aware of it. It is that bank of skills, games, stories, experiences, knowledge, activities, that are carried with you as a learning professional.
The most important thing about your toolbox, is to know what resources are within it. Knowing what resource is in your toolbox can provide you that energizer when your group is drifting. Your toolbox can give you that additional story when designing your learning, or give you with that SME (subject matter expert) in a pinch. There are no limits to what can be in your toolbox. Anything and everything in your toolbox has value when it used to enhance your learners' experiences. The most successful learning professionals are those who observe everything, and steal shamelessly. We can all be more successful when we can learn from each other. What is your toolbox? As a learning professional, your most powerful resource is your toolbox.
Lets share those resources, and make learning matter.
