Designing Learning Sunday - Infographic

Updated: Dec 13, 2020

Welcome back everyone to the Crossroad Learning blog series, Designing Learning Sunday. I’m Instructor Dave and I will be your tour guide in the world of Learning and Development. In this blog, we take an everyman's approach to instructional design and learning, and then break it down into bite-sized pieces so that everyone can be an instructional designer, no matter the business that you support.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving holiday and enjoyed the break, and that it was as enjoyable as can be! As I was off for a few days, I was able to spend time with my family, and our new puppies. We recently adopted two corgi puppies, and while I have never had a puppy before, they are awesome and full of love and learning. It was a great break. Now... let's get back to business.

This week we are back in the Crossroad Learning office banging away at the keys and designing learning that sticks. Where were we? Ready? Let's go.

Over the last few weeks, we have talked about a few of the primary areas of instructional design to consider when designing learning for your company.

DLS Blog 2 – Needs-Based Assessment?!

DLS Blog 3 – The Design Document

DLS Blog 5 The Learning Objective

DLS Blog 6 The Storyboard

We have discussed everything from determining if training was the answer to creating a storyboard. In the next few weeks, through the end of the year, we will discuss; DLS Blog 7 - Info, Activities, and Engagement

DLS Blog 8 - Supporting Documents DLS Blog 9 - Assessments to Check for Understanding DLS Blog 10 - Putting It All Together

As you can see, we will have quite a bit more to talk about. This week as we begin to transition back to work from the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to share something quick and easy to follow with you. Attached below is a quick infographic that outlines the first five Designing Learning Sunday Blog topics. Use this as a reference point and resource. This week as part of our DLS Blog series, in addition to the infographic, please review the previous six Designing Learning Sunday Blog posts.

We are going to build on our previous knowledge, and the topics we have covered next week when we discuss Info, Activities, and Engagement. Out of all of our DLS Blog topics, this will be, by and large, the most important and impactful. As we discuss information, activities, and engagement, we will share best practices, sample activities, and give you a great reference point on how you can deliver your training material as effectively as possible. Now, there is a caveat to this... this Blog series is all about the design of your learning, not the delivery. Starting in January 2021, as we conclude our DLS Blog series, we will move into what is called "Instructional Delivery", commonly referred to as training. Just as the world of instructional design is massive and ever-expanding, so is the world of instructional delivery. I cannot wait to get started. Stay safe, wash your hands, and join us next week for Designing Learning Sunday Blog 7 - Info, Activities, and Engagement. As always, if you have any questions, or just want to chat, reach out, we're here for you. Always be learning,

-Trainer Dave
